EEXCESS – Enhancing Europe’s eXchange in Cultural Educational and Scientific Resources
Scientific research findings, historical sound recordings, images of sculptures, films, sheet music and much more – these resources for research and education remain largely untapped. The project EEXCESS “Enhancing Europe’s eXchange in Cultural Educational and Scientific Resources” aims to open up these treasure of cultural or scholarly content in the long tail for the benefit of all users. It aims to enrich existing distribution channels such as blogs or social media with personalised and contextualised recommender technologies. In order to ensure high-quality recommendations, the project partners analyse user behaviour and usage structure in different user groups and integrate the knowledge of memory institutions. The EEXCESS project will develop various personalisation methods in order to ensure that users’ data are protected. With specific data protection recommendations contained in the web channels, EEXCESS will improve the use of cultural resources in three scenarios. (1) Support education processes in schools and universities, (2) improve scholarly communication to foment new discoveries and (3) improve the education of the general public.
